MCDEED’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES!
Tuesday, May 6, 2025, was a great day for the McDeed’s Creek fourth graders!! They gathered to celebrate what they had learned in the Pet Responsibility Program. Pet Responsibility Committee (PRC) volunteer Bill Russell reviewed the “I Can…” statements with the students; he covered being a responsible pet owner, the importance of spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation, keeping pets healthy and safe, knowing how to keep ourselves safe around pets, knowing that responsible pet owners care for a pet for its entire life, and being an animal advocate.
PRC mascot Speuter read a poem about her early life and how she was rescued and adopted into a good home.
Dr. Erin Barney of Longleaf Animal Hospital talked about her long road to become a veterinarian and then showed the students some of the instruments she uses when examining a pet. Muffy Russell was the “patient” and was told she was in good health!
During the program, the students illustrated messages of advocacy on “Clinic bags” to be given to the Sandhills Spay and Neuter Clinic in Vass. These will be used to dispense medications to pet owners for their pets after a spay/neuter procedure. Creators of great messages and bags were announced as “Star Artists” – Emery, Wyatt A., Ella C., Amaya P., Hadley, and Ellie L. Great job by the Artists!
Also during the program, students wrote a “Speuter story” about the importance of spaying and neutering. Several won free spay/neuter procedures for their pets or donated one to someone’s pet. The winners were Luna D., Lera H., Amelia S., Liam B., Addy B., Scarlett S., Laney M., Avery K., Aliana H., Vera R., Keelin L., and Orrin W.
Dogs Dennis, Allie, Missy, Kobe, Tucker and Winston, and cat Smokey won’t be adding to the Pet Overpopulation problem in Moore County!
The words on the Promise Poster were read and students eagerly responded with “I Promise”. The PRC celebrates that the McDeed’s Creek Bulls will be responsible Animal Advocates!!!
