The brand new McDeed’s Creek Elementary School celebrated the end of their very first Pet Responsibility Program with a visit and demonstration by two very special guests – Southern Pines Police Officer Greg Powers and K9 Officer Jaxx, a wonderful black Labrador. Officer Powers and Jaxx demonstrated how highly trained and precise K9 Officers must learn to be. Officer Powers trusts Jaxx with his life – she is his advocate. The favorite part of their job as a team is to find lost people – either young children or older, disoriented people. To do this, Jaxx uses her tremendous sense of smell to track them down.
Several fourth graders wrote wonderful entries for the Speuter Story Contest, proving that they are advocates by speaking up for those who have no voice. Keara and Paige were announced as the winners and were awarded framed certificates by the PRC Mascot, Speuter. Because of their efforts, two young male dogs will be neutered to help prevent over-population. Congratulations to all the McDeed’s Creek fourth graders for being part of the team that makes life better for all pets!
The slideshow of the assembly below also includes photos of the PRC volunteers – two and four-legged – that presented the program in the classrooms.
