MCDEED’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES!
Friday, April 24 was a great day for the McDeed’s Creek fourth graders!! They gathered in the gym to celebrate what they had learned during the Pet Responsibility Program. The assembly was emceed by Pet Responsibility Committee (PRC) volunteer Cindy Gansen. MaryAnn Root reviewed the five “I Can…” statements and corresponding lessons with the students. The students demonstrated their understanding of being a responsible pet owner; the importance of spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation; keeping pets healthy and safe; knowing how to keep ourselves safe around pets; knowing that responsible pet owners care for a pet for its entire life; and being an animal advocate.
PRC mascot Speuter (Philippa Davidson) read a poem about her early life as an abandoned kitten and how she was rescued and adopted into a good home.
PRC volunteer Diane Ingold presented her very popular slide show of the Aloha Safari Zoo, in Cameron, NC. The students were enthusiastic when seeing her photos and hearing the stories of the rescued exotic animals living at the zoo!
During the 5 session program, students illustrated messages of advocacy on “Clinic bags” to be given to the Sandhills Spay and Neuter Clinic in Vass. These will be used to dispense medications to pet owners for their pets after a spay/neuter procedure. Creators of great messages and creative art on the bags were announced as “Star Artists” – Maeve C., Riley, Charlie H., Ella C., Ava G., Adlen N and Embree. Great job by the Artists!
Also during the program, students wrote a “Speuter story” about the importance of spaying and neutering. Several won free spay/neuter procedures for their pets or donated back to PRC or a local rescue group. The winners were Oliver B., Oliver J., Rhett E., Tori C., Stephanie G., Amelia M., Skyler C., and Embree B. Pets Daisy, Robin and Kansas won’t be adding to the Pet Overpopulation problem in Moore County!
The Promise Poster was recited to the students who eagerly responded with “I Promise”. The poster was signed in the 4th grade classrooms after the Assembly.
The PRC congratulates the McDeed’s Creek Bulls who promise to be responsible Animal Advocates!!!
During the PRC’s 6 session program, several PRC therapy dog teams visited the McDeeds Creek classrooms. Their presence was enjoyed by the 4th grade students, as well as Mrs. Fowler and Mrs. Winters. Therapy Dog teams spreading their message of caring for a pet for all of its life were Wendy Borst/Gus, as well as her other TD’s; Kathy Pellerino/Nikko; Cheryl Stuckey/Bernie; Jill Boyd Myers/Quinn; Lynn Delgarn/Ellie; Katrina Haskell/Willow; Suzie Wall/Beanie and Beth Skewis/Jackson. They all made a very positive impression on the McDeed’s Creek students!
